Our Products

Are your products really preservative-free?+

Yes, completely. Our marinated olives are preserved using only salt and white vinegar (a traditional brine method used for thousands of years). Our dried products — hibiscus, molokhia, and spearmint — are preserved entirely through dehydration. No sulphur dioxide, no sodium benzoate, no citric acid, no artificial additives of any kind.

What is the shelf life of each product?+

Marinated Olives: 18 months sealed, 3 months refrigerated after opening. Dried Hibiscus: 24 months sealed, 9 months after opening. Dried Molokhia: 36 months sealed, 6 months after opening. Wild Spearmint: 36 months sealed, 6 months after opening.

Are your products organic?+

Our products are grown and harvested using natural methods in Siwa's traditional agricultural environment, without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. We are not currently certified organic (certification is a formal third-party process), but our practices are entirely natural.

Are your products vegan and gluten-free?+

Yes. All Siwa Reserve products are 100% plant-based (vegan) and naturally gluten-free. The only ingredients are the products themselves — olives, hibiscus petals, molokhia leaves, or spearmint leaves — and for the olives: water, salt, white vinegar, garlic, and herbs.

Where exactly does Siwa Reserve source its products?+

Exclusively from the Siwa Oasis in the Matruh Governorate of Egypt's Western Desert — 560km west of Cairo. We do not blend with produce from other regions or import.

What is نعناع جبلي (wild mountain spearmint)? Is it different from regular mint?+

Yes, significantly. Wild mountain spearmint grows naturally around Siwa's underground springs and has never been commercially cultivated. Wild plants develop 3–5x the concentration of essential oils (primarily carvone and limonene) compared to farmed spearmint, giving a far more intense aroma and flavour. It is also more nutritionally dense.

Packaging

Why glass jars for the olives?+

Glass is chemically inert — it doesn't leach anything into the product and doesn't affect flavour. It's also fully recyclable and signals quality. Plastic containers can interact with acidic brine over time.

Why tins for the hibiscus?+

Hibiscus petals are extremely sensitive to light and moisture — both degrade the anthocyanins (the compounds responsible for colour and antioxidant activity). Our powder-coated espresso tins block 100% of light and form a near-hermetic seal, far superior to paper or plastic bags.

What are the pouches made of?+

Our kraft paper pouches for molokhia and spearmint have a multi-layer construction: outer kraft paper, inner foil barrier liner. The foil layer blocks moisture, oxygen, and light. The resealable zipper maintains freshness after opening.

Can I reuse the glass jars?+

Absolutely — and we encourage it. The wide-mouth olive jars are perfect for storing olives, pickles, grains, seeds, or as small vases. The tins are ideal for loose-leaf tea, spices, or stationery.

Health & Nutrition

What are the health benefits of Siwa hibiscus?+

Dried hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is exceptionally rich in anthocyanins and Vitamin C. Studies have shown hibiscus tea may support cardiovascular health, help regulate blood pressure, and provide antioxidant protection. Our hibiscus is sun-dried at low temperature to preserve these compounds.

Is the molokhia nutritious after drying?+

Yes — drying concentrates nutrients. Dried molokhia retains high levels of iron, vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, and dietary fibre. It rehydrates rapidly in cooking and restores its silky texture in soups and stews.

Can pregnant women consume these products?+

All four products are whole, natural foods with no additives. However, as with any dietary question during pregnancy, we recommend consulting your physician. Spearmint tea in large quantities is sometimes discussed in medical literature — moderate consumption is generally considered safe.
